COMFORT FOOD BRANDING PROJECT
CHALLENGE:
For this project we had to come up with a name for a restaurant that depicted all things comfort food. We had to design the name, logo, chose a colour palette, design a website, and a restaurant facade. The website had to have a special feature item, an order section, about page, and a sign up section, ensuring that the branding all tied together.
SOLUTION:
I chose to work with a dessert house that specializes in all things to do with apples. Apples are a comfort food for me, especially in the fall. The smell and taste of apple and cinnamon bring back comforting memories of home.
RESTAURANT NAME & LOGO:
I decided to work with a horse design in my final logo choice as I also love horses and wanted to bring a fun country vibe to the design.
I came up with the name "Appley Dappley". I felt this was a catchy, fun name that would be easy to remember. I chose a candy apple red for the name and used a modern, fun, sans serif display font arched upward on top for Appley and downward on the bottom for Dappley with a black and white profile of a horse chomping down on a red apple in the middle. I wanted to keep the illustration simple and playful in the design direction. I felt that the rustic simplicity of the illustration added a bit of flair to the overall logo design.
WEBSITE:
For the website I used a colourful picture of a variety of apples spilling out of a wooden basket onto a white washed, barn wood board, with the large logo beside it and the menu below. For the hero section I have an image of a large apple blossom with a blurb and learn more button.
