LOST Magazine
For this project we had to use our own life travel experiences, using most of our own photographs and experiences to work within a similar, yet different style to what can be found in LOST magazine. I decided to highlight my travel and living experience in Paris, France. I enjoyed reliving some of the memories from my sojourn. I lived in Paris from October 1999 until September 2000. I had the opportunity to go backpacking with friends after saving relentlessly for 2 years while working at Henry's in Toronto and taking on part time weekend jobs. That was when renting a room didn't cost a small fortune in Toronto. At the end of our backpacking trip, I didn't want my experience to end. I am an avid reader, and loved many of the classics that were based in Paris. I also love and studied fine art in high school and being surrounded by all the great artists work was mesmerizing to me. I found work as an au pair to a family with 3 children, teaching them English, while I learned to speak French on a level that I could not achieve back home. I lived in a tiny "chambre de bonnes" in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. For my chapter opener, I chose to use a royalty free image from unsplash to show exactly where I lived near the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs d'Elyse, using a heart shape. I had the opportunity to return for a short visit in 2016 with my husband as he had won a trip through his work and we extended our stay to include Paris so I could show him all the places I frequented and where I lived. These experiences helped to shape who I am today and was so important in helping mold my creativity.
